FAQs
The Rogue Expeditions team answers some of the most common questions about their guided running adventures below.
A running vacation is a trip built around daily runs instead of around a race. Each morning you run a route selected for that region—coastal singletrack, mountain passes, old shepherd paths—and the rest of the day is meals, local activities, and rest. You cover ground on foot that most travelers see from a bus window, and everything in between the runs is handled for you.
If you can comfortably run 4–5 miles, you can do most of our trips. Every itinerary is graded 1 to 3 for difficulty and level of activity, and each tour page lists daily mileage and elevation so you can pick the right fit. Daily distances are adjustable on nearly every run, so you can shorten or extend based on how you’re feeling that day.
There is no group pace. Runs are designed so the group can spread out and regroup—out-and-backs, loops, or vehicle-supported point-to-points—and our guides split up to run with the front and the back. In practice you’ll find people across a wide range of paces on the same trip, and nobody spends the week running someone else’s workout.
Yes—roughly two-thirds of our travelers book on their own. It’s the most common way to join a Rogue trip, and by the second day the group usually feels like they’ve known each other longer than that. If you’re deciding between coming alone or waiting for a friend to commit, come alone.
Yes, on most trips, for an additional single supplement listed on the tour page. If you’d prefer to share, we’ll pair you with another solo traveler of the same gender at no extra cost. Either way, you’re never assigned a roommate without knowing in advance.
Every run is led by two guides. Your Rogue Expeditions guide is Wilderness First Aid–certified and an experienced trail runner; your second guide is a local who knows the terrain, the language, and the region. Between them, one runs with the front of the group and one with the back.
The trip price includes all accommodations, meals, guides for daily runs, transportation for the duration of the trip, and select activities. Specific inclusions vary by tour—check the individual trip page for details.
What’s not included? Flights, travel insurance, alcohol, visa fees, and gratuities are not included. Airport transfers are included on most trips within a set arrival window listed on each tour page. Anything you do on a free afternoon that isn’t part of the itinerary is on you
Group sizes vary but are usually kept between 8 and 14 runners. That’s small enough that the group stays a group and large enough that you’ll find people to run with at your pace.
Accommodation ranges from 4-star hotels in capital cities to multi-generationally owned mountain lodges to an ostrich farm on 3,000 acres. We choose lodging that’s high quality and distinctly local, with proximity to the region’s best running. Each tour page lists specific accommodations for that trip.
Yes, and plenty do. Non-running partners pay the same trip price, join every meal, transfer, and activity, and typically hike, ride, swim, or explore while the group runs—our guides will help plan their day. It works best on trips with vehicle support and a walkable base each night, so talk to us about which itineraries fit.
